Welcome
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (“OCD”) is an anxiety based condition that can manifest itself in many ways, including a seemingly endless repetition of innocuous habits; “checking” such things as locked doors or fingernail length; as well as hyper-concern over personal hygiene and germs. A less well-known manifestation of OCD is that of hoarding, which involves the collection of anything and everything that the victim deems to have emotional or monetary value.
The problem is that those that suffer from hoarding will rarely throw anything away. Piles of clothing, garbage, rotten food, old newspapers, and stale dated flyers are just some of the collectibles for hoarders. The home, be it big or small is always in a state of chaos. This endless collection of all things that hold an emotional attachment feeds on the hoarder. The result leaves the hoarder socially isolated. Unable to live in a clean, safe and healthy environment, the hoarder puts him or herself at constant risk – as well as his family.
We at OCD-Hoarding.com offer a life-coaching service to complement (not replace) the efforts of therapists, family and friends to assist the hoarder to implement strategies to manage their “compulsion”. Most importantly, given the risks listed above, we also arrange for the homes of hoarders to be cleaned by sensitive and caring professionals. Such cleaning is often performed over a period of time, in order to minimize the distress and anxiety that normally accompanies the removal of the hoarders’ “valuable” possessions.
